A cross sectional study to identify factors determining low birth weight babies observed in a tribal district of Odisha, India

Birth weight is one of the important determinants chance new born babies to survive and experience healthy growth development. So present study was done find some risk factors associated with delivering low birth (LBW) by tribal womens in Mayurbhanj district Odisha, India. A cross sectional, institution-community based undertaken over a period 3 months on mothers at various hospitals community Odisha. The group consisted 100 who had LBW compared normal babies, as control group. Factors like age marriage, education mother, family income, before pregnancy, gain during number parity, completed hemoglobin level, blood pressure, infection, chronic disease, physical work, intake iron folic acid, alcohol consumption, use tobacco etc. were between two groups. Among 70 (86.41%) married 15-19 years age, 36 (94.73%) attained up primary 21 (91.30%) income< Rs. 1000 per months, 25 (80.64%) achieved last conception 19 years, 14 (66.66%) spacing <19 42 (73.68%) height<150cm, (75.26%) level<11gm/dl, 64 (78.04%) malaria 30 (85.71%) hard work inadequate ANC visits, 91(73.98%) no additional diet 59 (83.09%) consumed 56 (77.77%) addicted pregnancy. In addition these factors, epidemiological maternal antenatal care, inter pregnancy interval bad obstetric history are also found influence weight. Hence, it need hour strengthen existing services basic level community.
